Premiere of Heartwood at Kirkos: K3, the Sugar Club

  • The Sugar Club 8 Leeson Street Lower Dublin 2, County Dublin, D02 ET97 Ireland (map)

Kirkos Ensemble celebrates two years and twenty concerts by pushing the boat out in our most ambitious event yet. On May 6th we present a smorgasbord of new music in the Sugar Club from an assortment of next big things in Irish composition, performed by the incredibly talented musicians of Kirkos. It's our annual showcase of what the most talented young composers in Ireland have to offer.

The evening will begin with a concert featuring intimate chamber works by Daniel Barkley, Breffni O’Byrne, Jonathan Nangle, Aran O’Grady and more, world premieres of works for large ensemble by Robert Coleman and Adam Collins, and a new work for keyboards, electronics, video and manifesto-reader by Sebastian Adams. Frederic Rzewski’s 1973 landmark political piece Coming Together closes the concert in Kirkos’ trademark door-slamming style with its ripping minimalist riffs and shocking text.

After this you will be asked politely to relax. And asked again, gradually less politely, until you comply. Post-concert, you will be serenaded by DJ Krks, who will spin his collection of avant garde electronic music, much of which hasn’t previously been heard on a dancefloor but definitely should be. To help you acclimatise, you can buy the infamous Kirkos Koktail from the bar.

It will be weird, it will be loud, it WILL be accompanied by live visuals.

Doors open at 8pm
Music starts at 8.30pm
