Dublin Port Soundmap
The Dublin Port Soundmap is an investigation into the soundscape of Dublin Port featuring field recordings of the port area and its surroundings.
Dublin Port has been a feature of the Dublin cityscape stretching back centuries. Today it is a busy working port; the busiest in Ireland, which sees various vessels everyday from freight handling to ferry services as well as being a home to other industry such as power generation.
That said, much of the Port area is an unknown environment for the general public. It is filled with many examples of working and thriving companies as well as various unused buildings, structures and spaces from previous industry.
The Dublin Port is marked for development over the coming years under the 2040 Dublin Port Masterplan and so this soundmap also acts as an archive and snapshot of this changing sonic environment, building an awareness of the port area through sound.
Clontarf, Poolbeg and other areas close to Dublin Bay also feature here which many Dubliners would be familiar with for their coastal character.
I hope you enjoy listening and welcome suggestions and comments at dublinportsoundmap@gmail.com
I welcome any additional recordings you may like to feature although please note that it is not permitted to record within the official Dublin Port area without permission.
