W(o)ar Open Studio Event for National Biodiversity Week

I will be presenting a multichannel underwater soundscape recorded around the rockpools of Loughshinny.

Maria is presenting a multidisciplinary body of work exploring the cultural history and speculative futures of seaweed in Fingal, referencing the 1800s seaweed wars and contemporary aquaculture. The project spans analogue 35mm and Super 8 film processed with seaweed, lumen printing, underwater photography, microscopic filming, and archival storytelling using seaweed ink, alongside 1800s heritage potato cultivation. 

There will be a walking tour hosted by Lorraine Bull the Biodiversity officer for Fingal County Council, starting at 12pm on the day 🪸

Also includes collaborations with phycologist Dr Maeve Edwards, artist and ballad singer Paddy Critchley, and filmmaker Patrick Fleming

The Complex is back with another edition of The Depot Sessions—a series of carefully curated live music nights held in the raw, industrial setting of The Depot. Known for its shapeshifting atmosphere, the space uniquely adapts to each performance, spotlighting a dynamic mix of Irish talent across all genres. From breakthrough acts to established names, these sessions have gained a strong following for their immersive audio-visual experiences since launching in June 2024.

Joining the lineup this time is KIRKOS, one of The Complex’s newest studio members based just around the corner at 1 Little Green Street. This Dublin-based new music group runs a DIY venue with a radically open programming ethos. Their focus lies in nurturing the rich, experimental ecosystem that exists on the fringes of Irish new music and high-concept performance.

Balancing between contemporary classical and experimental sounds, KIRKOS rarely delivers conventional concerts. Instead, they reimagine the audience experience from the ground up—drawing heavily on theatre, visual art, and performance art to build something more immersive, collaborative, and alive.

Part of a broader DIY movement responding to the lack of accessible cultural spaces in Dublin, KIRKOS opens their doors to artists of all backgrounds and disciplines—offering space free of charge wherever possible.

For The Depot Sessions, KIRKOS and collaborators will transform the venue into an open, living environment inspired by John Cage’s Happenings and the Fluxus movement—performing throughout the space and among the audience.
