The Singing Hollow is a new world premiere by Sebastian Adams with performers Jin Periault, Robert Coleman, Nick Roth, Joanna Mattrey, Olesya Borsuk and St.Audoen’s Society of Bellringers.
The Singing Hollow sculpture in St Audoen’s Park invites visitors to place their heads into a hollowed stone. This creates an acoustic transformation, evoking the sense of sanctuary that one feels upon entering a church — a momentary escape from the outside world.
This sensation has inspired a unique live sound installation, featuring the world premiere of a new composition by Sebastian Adams, written specifically for @staudoensopw
Inside the church, its historic 1885 organ, which celebrates a small anniversary this year, will be played in dialogue with musicians spread across the church grounds. These include shakuhachi/flute, melodica, viola, and saxophone, positioned throughout the ancient site. The church’s six bells, some of which are over 600 years old, will sound as a resonant bridge between the interior and exterior worlds.
Each part — organ, bells, and instruments — is both independent and interdependent, creating a multi-layered sonic experience that responds to the unique acoustic and spiritual space of this nearly millennium-old site. This event is dedicated fully to music: a moment to listen deeply to a space shaped by centuries of resonance, silence, and sound.
The Singing Hollow sculpture in St Audoen's Park invites visitors to put their heads into a hole inside a rock. It creates an acoustic transformation reminiscent of the feeling of sanctuary from the outside world that comes when you walk into a church. This inspired this live sound installation with the premiere of an original composiiton by Sebastian Adams written specially for St.Audoen’s Church with the organ being played inside the church, musicians in the grounds, and church bells bridge both worlds, all parts both independent and interdependent.
Performing on the night will be @jinanibob @robertjwcoleman@joannamattrey @diatriberecords supported by the St.Audoen’s Society of Bellringers.
